Ripple Prime has expanded its institutional financial services by introducing perpetual swaps linked to real-world assets (RWA), covering more than 100 markets. The new instruments allow institutional clients to trade derivatives tied to stocks, equity indices, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), metals, energy commodities, and foreign exchange around the clock, including weekends.
The products reference perpetual futures contracts listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid. Ripple Prime acts as the principal counterparty, giving institutional participants access to traditional financial markets through derivatives without requiring them to own the underlying assets directly.
Round-the-Clock Access to Traditional Markets
Perpetual swaps allow traders to open leveraged positions without a fixed contract expiration date. Through the new integration, institutional investors can respond to market developments outside the standard trading hours of stock and commodity exchanges.
However, 24/7 access to derivatives does not mean that the underlying markets operate continuously. Contract prices are linked to relevant market benchmarks, while pricing conditions and liquidity may vary depending on the time of day.
According to Ripple, market maker Virtu is among the first participants using the new instruments. A company representative noted that continuous trading and the ability to combine margin requirements across different positions help improve liquidity management and support expansion into additional markets.
For institutional clients, a key advantage is the ability to execute transactions through a single counterparty while managing risk across multiple asset classes. This approach can streamline trading operations and reduce the need to distribute transactions among several service providers.
RLUSD and Unified Collateral Management
Eligible clients can use Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin as collateral for the new swaps. Availability depends on the applicable jurisdiction and regulatory restrictions.
Ripple Prime also supports cross-margining, which allows risk across positions in different asset classes to be assessed within a single portfolio. When certain positions offset one another from a risk perspective, this mechanism may reduce the total collateral required.
Instead of managing margin requirements separately for every trade, institutional participants can monitor their overall exposure and portfolio status through a unified infrastructure. This can be particularly useful for firms operating across digital assets, foreign exchange, and traditional financial instruments.
However, cross-margining does not eliminate leverage-related risks. During sharp market movements, losses can increase and collateral requirements can change rapidly. Actual capital savings depend on portfolio composition, applicable margin rules, and the nature of open positions.
Ripple Prime Expands Its Institutional Trading Infrastructure
Ripple Prime’s current strategy builds on its acquisition of brokerage firm Hidden Road for $1.25 billion. Following the completion of the deal in 2025, Ripple gained infrastructure designed to serve institutional clients across multiple financial markets.
The platform brings together access to digital assets, foreign exchange, fixed-income products, derivatives, and swaps through a single institutional account. This enables clients to manage trading activities and related risks within a centralized framework.
Ripple Prime previously integrated support for Hyperliquid, giving institutional participants access to a decentralized derivatives marketplace while allowing relevant positions to be incorporated into broader margin management.
The launch of RWA swaps continues this strategy. The new products connect Ripple Prime’s brokerage infrastructure with contracts that track the value of traditional financial instruments and commodities. As a result, institutional clients gain additional ways to diversify their trading strategies without directly owning the underlying assets.
Ripple Plans to Expand Regional Availability
Initially, the new swaps are available under Ripple Prime’s license in the British Virgin Islands. The company intends to expand access to additional regions, although specific markets and launch dates have not yet been announced.
Access to the products will depend on local regulations, institutional client requirements, and the terms applicable in each jurisdiction. Similar restrictions apply to the use of RLUSD as collateral.
The expansion of RWA derivatives reflects a broader trend toward integrating traditional financial markets with blockchain infrastructure. For Ripple Prime, the launch represents another step in developing a comprehensive platform for institutional trading across digital and traditional asset classes.
