What to know about Bitcoin and XRP
Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency. It was described in a 2008 white paper by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto and launched in January 2009. Bitcoin has no issuer or central operator: the rules are enforced by thousands of independent nodes, and the supply is capped at 21 million coins.
Sending and receiving BTC
Bitcoin addresses start with 1, 3 or bc1. The fee depends on how busy the network is, not on the amount you send, so wallets let you pick a faster or cheaper fee. A payment is usually treated as final after several confirmations; each new block adds one, so a transfer takes from about 10 minutes to an hour.
XRP
XRP is the native coin of the XRP Ledger, a blockchain launched in 2012 by the founders of what later became Ripple Labs. It was designed for fast and inexpensive international payments.
How XRP works
The XRP Ledger does not use mining: validators agree on the order of transactions through a consensus protocol, and a new ledger closes every 3–5 seconds. All 100 billion XRP were created at launch. Each account must keep a small base reserve of XRP to exist on the ledger.
How to exchange Bitcoin to XRP

What to check before exchanging BTC to XRP
- The recipient address must be on the XRP Ledger network: funds sent on another network may be lost.

- The amount sent must be at least 0.003 BTC.
- Copy the whole address and check the first and last characters after pasting.
- Funds go through an AML check; high-risk transfers may be held until the check is complete.
