What to know about USD Coin and Ethereum
USD Coin (USDC)
USD Coin (USDC) is a dollar stablecoin issued by Circle since 2018. Each token is backed by reserves held in cash and short-term US Treasuries, and the reserve composition is regularly reported by the issuer.
Sending and receiving USDC
Send USDC only on the network the recipient supports: an Ethereum address and a Polygon address may look identical but the funds end up on different chains. Fees are paid in the native coin of the network (ETH, SOL, POL…).
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum is a programmable blockchain proposed by Vitalik Buterin and launched in 2015. Its native coin, ETH, pays for computation on the network. Thousands of tokens, stablecoins, decentralized exchanges, lending protocols and NFT collections run on Ethereum.
Risks and things to know
Gas fees can spike during busy periods. Sending tokens to a contract address or on the wrong network may make them unrecoverable. Smart contracts you interact with can contain bugs, and approvals you sign can be abused if a site is malicious.
Polygon network
Polygon PoS is an Ethereum-compatible network with addresses in the same 0x format. Fees are paid in POL and usually cost a fraction of a cent.
Arbitrum One network
Arbitrum One is an Ethereum layer-2 network. Addresses use the Ethereum format, fees are paid in ETH and are much lower than on the Ethereum mainnet.
How to exchange USD Coin to Ethereum
- Enter the USDC Polygon amount in the calculator (minimum 200 USDC Polygon) and click “Go to exchange”.
- Enter your ETH wallet address on the Arbitrum One network and your contact details.
- Send exactly the specified amount of USDC Polygon on the Polygon network to the details shown in the order.
- Once the transfer is confirmed, Ethereum is sent to your address. You can track the order on its status page.
What to check before exchanging USDC Polygon to ETH Arbitrum
- The recipient address must be on the Arbitrum One network: funds sent on another network may be lost.
- The amount sent must be at least 200 USDC Polygon.
- Copy the whole address and check the first and last characters after pasting.
- Funds go through an AML check; high-risk transfers may be held until the check is complete.
