What a halving is
A halving is a rule built into Litecoin: every 840,000 blocks the reward for a new block is cut in half. It slows down the issue of new LTC until the maximum supply of 84 M LTC is reached.
How the date is estimated
The date is calculated from the number of blocks left and the average block time over the last 24 hours (~2.5 min). Blocks are found at a random pace, so the estimate shifts by a few days: the halving happens at block 3,360,000, not on a fixed date.
All Litecoin halvings

| 2 | 1,680,000 | Aug 5, 2019 | 25 → 12.5 LTC |
| 3 | 2,520,000 | Aug 2, 2023 | 12.5 → 6.25 LTC |
| 4 | 3,360,000 | ≈ Jul 23, 2027 (expected) | 6.25 → 3.125 LTC |
| 5 | 4,200,000 | ≈ Jun 27, 2031 (expected) | 3.125 → 1.5625 LTC |
