Olympique de Marseille Joins Chiliz Fan Token Ecosystem

French football club Olympique de Marseille has joined the Fan Token digital asset ecosystem developed by Chiliz. The club has become part of a network that brings together more than 60 sports teams and organizations around the world.

Chiliz announced the new partnership on Tuesday. As part of the collaboration, Marseille supporters will gain access to digital fan engagement tools through the Fan Token ecosystem and the Socios.com platform.

The network already includes well-known football clubs and national teams such as Paris Saint-Germain, AS Monaco, Manchester City, FC Barcelona, Juventus, as well as the national teams of Spain, Italy, and Portugal.

Fan Tokens Will Give Marseille Supporters New Opportunities

One of the main goals of the partnership is to expand the club’s relationship with supporters not only in France but also around the world. Fan Token holders will be able to access special events, club rewards, and other engagement opportunities.

Planned experiences inсlude activities at the Orange Vélodrome, visits to the training center alongside club legends, and virtual meetings with players.

Token holders are also expected to gain access to club polls. Through these votes, fans will be able to influence selected decisions that the club chooses to put before its community.

Fan Tokens may also be used to redeem various rewards, including signed merchandise, match-related memorabilia, tickets, and other exclusive offers.

French Clubs Have Been Using Fan Tokens for Several Years

Olympique de Marseille is not the first French club to join the Chiliz ecosystem. Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco were among the earlier major adopters in France, launching their Fan Tokens in 2020 and 2022 respectively.

According to Chiliz, holders of French Fan Tokens have already redeemed nearly 4,000 rewards and unique experiences using the digital assets associated with their favorite teams.

The addition of Marseille further expands Chiliz’s presence in French football and increases the number of major European clubs using tokenized tools to engage with supporters.

What Is a Fan Token and How Does It Work?

Fan Tokens are digital assets linked to specific sports clubs or organizations. Their primary purpose is to increase fan engagement and provide holders with additional benefits within a club’s digital ecosystem.

Through the Socios.com wallet, holders can take part in polls, earn rewards, and gain access to exclusive physical and digital experiences.

Depending on the club, rewards may inсlude VIP match tickets, signed merchandise, memorabilia, player meet-and-greets, and other activities.

For sports organizations, this model creates an additional channel for interacting with a global audience. It can also support new commercial formats beyond traditional ticket sales, merchandise, and sponsorship agreements.

Fan Token Play Introduces a Dynamic Token Mechanism

Chiliz is also developing the Fan Token Play concept, which introduces mint-and-burn mechanics based on match results.

Under this model, new Fan Tokens may be minted after a team loses, while some tokens may be burned, or permanently removed from circulation, after victories. This makes token supply more dynamic and partially connected to sporting performance.

This differs from the traditional model, where Fan Token supply remains relatively static and is largely determined by the parameters of the initial issuance.

Chiliz sees Fan Token Play as an additional way to connect digital assets with what happens on the field and make fan engagement with clubs more continuous.

Socios.com Remains the Main Fan Engagement Platform

The central element of the Chiliz ecosystem is the Socios.com platform. Through it, users can store Fan Tokens, participate in votes, receive rewards, and interact with sports organizations.

For supporters, the platform combines several functions in one place: a digital wallet, a voting mechanism, and a systеm for accessing club-related offers and experiences.

Through Socios.com, token holders can use their assets to participate in polls, redeem signed merchandise, access VIP match tickets and other rewards, and take part in special events.

As a result, a Fan Token is used not only as a digital asset but also as a type of access pass to the broader fan engagement ecosystem built around a particular sports brand.

Chiliz Chain Was Built Specifically for Sports and Entertainment

The technological foundation of the ecosystem is Chiliz Chain, a Layer-1 blockchain focused on sports, entertainment, and projects built around fan communities.

The network’s native token is CHZ. It is used throughout the Chiliz ecosystem and can, among other things, be used to purchase Fan Tokens.

CHZ also serves as an internal settlement asset within the Chiliz infrastructure, connecting different products, sports projects, and the Socios.com platform.

The project’s broader goal is to create a specialized blockchain environment where sports clubs and entertainment brands can launch digital products for their communities without having to build the entire technical infrastructure themselves.

How Sports Clubs Launch Their Own Fan Tokens

Each sports organization using Chiliz technology receives a defined and limited supply of its own Fan Tokens. The initial distribution of these assets can take place through a Fan Token Offering (FTO).

During an FTO, tokens are offered to users under predetermined conditions. Chiliz discloses the opening price and key issuance parameters, including the fully diluted valuation where applicable.

CHZ is used to purchase Fan Tokens within the ecosystem. This makes the native Chiliz token a connecting asset between users and the digital tokens issued by individual sports organizations.

After launch, a club can gradually expand the utility of its token by adding new polls, rewards, events, and other forms of fan engagement.

Chiliz Is Expanding Beyond Football

Although football remains one of the main areas of the ecosystem, Chiliz is gradually expanding into other segments of sports and entertainment.

Its best-known partners inсlude FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain. At the same time, the company is developing projects in esports, gaming, and other entertainment verticals.

The strategy is to use a single blockchain infrastructure for different types of fan engagement. This allows the Fan Token model to be adapted from one sport or entertainment category to another without rebuilding the entire technical systеm.

The addition of Olympique de Marseille shows that the company continues to strengthen its position in European football, where major clubs have multimillion-member international audiences.

The Partnership Gives Marseille a New Digital Channel for Its Global Fan Base

For Olympique de Marseille, Fan Tokens may become an additional way to engage supporters who live outside France and cannot regularly attend home matches.

Instead of limiting engagement to match viewing and social media, the club will be able to offer international supporters participation in polls, virtual events, loyalty programs, and opportunities to earn special rewards.

This format may be especially relevant for clubs with large international fan bases. Digital infrastructure makes it possible to run the same activities for users in different countries without requiring them to be physically present.

For Chiliz, the new partnership increases the number of major sports brands in its ecosystem and strengthens a model in which blockchain is used primarily as infrastructure connecting clubs with their supporters.

Fan Tokens Are Becoming a Distinct Part of the Digital Sports Economy

The growth of Fan Tokens shows how blockchain is increasingly being used in sports for more than payments or collectible NFTs. Digital assets are becoming tools for loyalty programs, voting, and access to exclusive experiences.

Under this model, a token’s value is not determined only by its market price but also by the range of functions offered by the specific club. The more ways holders can use the token within the ecosystem, the more important its practical utility becomes.

At the same time, Fan Tokens remain digital assets whose market value can fluctuate. Their utility within the fan engagement ecosystem and their market price are therefore two separate elements.

Olympique de Marseille’s addition expands the Chiliz network to more than 60 sports partners and highlights the continued development of a model combining professional sports, digital assets, and fan engagement programs.
