What to know about Tether and Dai
Tether (USDT)
Tether (USDT) is the largest stablecoin: a token designed to stay at one US dollar. It was launched in 2014 by Tether Limited, which issues USDT against reserves that consist mostly of cash equivalents and short-term US Treasury bills.
Sending and receiving USDT
The key choice is the network. USDT on TRON is popular for its low fees and speed, ERC20 is supported almost everywhere but costs more in gas, while Solana, TON and BEP20 are cheap alternatives. The recipient address must belong to the same network you send on, and you need the network's native coin (TRX, ETH, BNB…) to pay the fee from your own wallet.
Dai
Dai (DAI) is a decentralized dollar stablecoin created by the Maker protocol (MakerDAO) in 2017 and now part of the Sky ecosystem. Unlike USDT or USDC, DAI is not issued against bank deposits: it is created by users who lock crypto collateral in smart contracts.
How Dai works
To mint DAI, a user deposits more collateral than the value of the DAI received. If the collateral falls in value, the position is liquidated automatically, which keeps DAI backed. Interest rates set by governance help hold the price near one dollar.
Arbitrum One network
Arbitrum One is an Ethereum layer-2 network. Addresses use the Ethereum format, fees are paid in ETH and are much lower than on the Ethereum mainnet.
How to exchange Tether to Dai
- Enter the USDT Arbitrum amount in the calculator (minimum 200 USDT Arbitrum) and click “Go to exchange”.
- Enter your DAI wallet address on the Dai network and your contact details.
- Send exactly the specified amount of USDT Arbitrum on the Arbitrum One network to the details shown in the order.
- Once the transfer is confirmed, Dai is sent to your address. You can track the order on its status page.
What to check before exchanging USDT Arbitrum to DAI
- The recipient address must be on the Dai network: funds sent on another network may be lost.
- The amount sent must be at least 200 USDT Arbitrum.
- Copy the whole address and check the first and last characters after pasting.
- Addresses on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, BNB Smart Chain and Polygon look the same (0x…): make sure the wallet shows Ethereum as the network.
- To move DAI on Ethereum later, you will need a little ETH on the same address.
- Funds go through an AML check; high-risk transfers may be held until the check is complete.
