What to know about Polygon and Tether
Polygon (POL)
POL (formerly MATIC) is the token of the Polygon ecosystem. Polygon started in 2017 as a scaling solution for Ethereum; in 2024 MATIC was upgraded to POL.
Sending and receiving POL
Polygon addresses start with 0x, the same as Ethereum. Make sure the recipient supports Polygon; a transfer costs a fraction of a cent in POL.
Tether (USDT)
Tether (USDT) is the largest stablecoin: a token designed to stay at one US dollar. It was launched in 2014 by Tether Limited, which issues USDT against reserves that consist mostly of cash equivalents and short-term US Treasury bills.
How Tether works
USDT is not a blockchain of its own. The same dollar token is issued on many networks — TRON (TRC20), Ethereum (ERC20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP20), Solana, TON, Polygon, Arbitrum and others. Tokens on different networks are not interchangeable directly: they are moved between networks by exchanges and bridges.
BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) network
BEP20 is the token standard on BNB Smart Chain, an Ethereum-compatible network. Addresses look like Ethereum addresses, and fees are paid in BNB and are usually low.
How to exchange Polygon to Tether
- Enter the POL amount in the calculator (minimum 22,000 POL) and click “Go to exchange”.
- Enter your USDT wallet address on the BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) network and your contact details.
- Send exactly the specified amount of POL on the Polygon PoS network to the details shown in the order.
- Once the transfer is confirmed, Tether is sent to your address. You can track the order on its status page.
What to check before exchanging POL to USDT BEP20
- The recipient address must be on the BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) network: funds sent on another network may be lost.
- The amount sent must be at least 22,000 POL.
- Copy the whole address and check the first and last characters after pasting.
- Funds go through an AML check; high-risk transfers may be held until the check is complete.
