What to know about Dai and USD Coin
Dai
Dai (DAI) is a decentralized dollar stablecoin created by the Maker protocol (MakerDAO) in 2017 and now part of the Sky ecosystem. Unlike USDT or USDC, DAI is not issued against bank deposits: it is created by users who lock crypto collateral in smart contracts.
Sending and receiving DAI
DAI is an ERC20 token on Ethereum and is also available on other networks such as BNB Smart Chain and Polygon. Check the network before sending and keep some of the native coin for fees.
USD Coin (USDC)
USD Coin (USDC) is a dollar stablecoin issued by Circle since 2018. Each token is backed by reserves held in cash and short-term US Treasuries, and the reserve composition is regularly reported by the issuer.
How USD Coin works
Like USDT, USDC exists on many blockchains — Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum, BNB Smart Chain and others. Circle mints and burns tokens as dollars enter or leave its reserves, which keeps the price close to one dollar.
Arbitrum One network
Arbitrum One is an Ethereum layer-2 network. Addresses use the Ethereum format, fees are paid in ETH and are much lower than on the Ethereum mainnet.
How to exchange Dai to USD Coin
- Enter the DAI amount in the calculator (minimum 200 DAI) and click “Go to exchange”.
- Enter your USDC wallet address on the Arbitrum One network and your contact details.
- Send exactly the specified amount of DAI on the Dai network to the details shown in the order.
- Once the transfer is confirmed, USD Coin is sent to your address. You can track the order on its status page.
What to check before exchanging DAI to USDC Arbitrum
- The recipient address must be on the Arbitrum One network: funds sent on another network may be lost.
- The amount sent must be at least 200 DAI.
- Copy the whole address and check the first and last characters after pasting.
- Addresses on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, BNB Smart Chain and Polygon look the same (0x…): make sure the wallet shows Arbitrum One as the network.
- To move USDC on Arbitrum One later, you will need a little ETH on the same address.
- Funds go through an AML check; high-risk transfers may be held until the check is complete.
