What to know about USD Coin and Tether
USD Coin (USDC)
USD Coin (USDC) is a dollar stablecoin issued by Circle since 2018. Each token is backed by reserves held in cash and short-term US Treasuries, and the reserve composition is regularly reported by the issuer.
Sending and receiving USDC
Send USDC only on the network the recipient supports: an Ethereum address and a Polygon address may look identical but the funds end up on different chains. Fees are paid in the native coin of the network (ETH, SOL, POL…).
Tether (USDT)
Tether (USDT) is the largest stablecoin: a token designed to stay at one US dollar. It was launched in 2014 by Tether Limited, which issues USDT against reserves that consist mostly of cash equivalents and short-term US Treasury bills.
Where to store Tether
USDT can be held in any wallet that supports the chosen network. Check that the wallet shows the official USDT contract, because fake tokens with the same name exist.
Arbitrum One network
Arbitrum One is an Ethereum layer-2 network. Addresses use the Ethereum format, fees are paid in ETH and are much lower than on the Ethereum mainnet.
Solana network
Tokens on Solana follow the SPL standard. Transfers confirm in seconds with fees of a fraction of a cent paid in SOL; receiving a new token for the first time requires a small SOL deposit.
How to exchange USD Coin to Tether
- Enter the USDC Arbitrum amount in the calculator (minimum 200 USDC Arbitrum) and click “Go to exchange”.
- Enter your USDT wallet address on the Solana network and your contact details.
- Send exactly the specified amount of USDC Arbitrum on the Arbitrum One network to the details shown in the order.
- Once the transfer is confirmed, Tether is sent to your address. You can track the order on its status page.
What to check before exchanging USDC Arbitrum to USDT SOL
- The recipient address must be on the Solana network: funds sent on another network may be lost.
- The amount sent must be at least 200 USDC Arbitrum.
- Copy the whole address and check the first and last characters after pasting.
- To move USDT on Solana later, you will need a little SOL on the same address.
- Funds go through an AML check; high-risk transfers may be held until the check is complete.
